At the Dartmoor Centres we provide a range of Outdoor Leadership qualifications.  As well as providing first aid courses for outdoor practitioners we also provide training and assessment for the South West Mountain & Moorland Leader Training Scheme (SWMML) on behalf of Devon County Council and also the MLTE Walking Group Leader Scheme.

WALKING COURSES

Walking Group Leader Training (MLTE)

This 3 day course is for those who wish to lead groups in moorland terrain across the UK. 


Walking Group Leader Assessment (MLTE)

This 3 day assessment is for those who have completed the training course.


Coastal & Countryside Leadership Training & Assessment
(including camping endorsement)

This weekend course (Friday evening to Sunday afternoon) is for those wishing to lead groups in rural countryside and coastal areas in South West England and South Wales in Summer conditions.  The weekend course includes training and assessment.

Suited to those leading Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions.

Summer Moorland Walking Leader Training (SWMML)

This weekend course (Friday evening to Sunday afternoon) is for those wishing to lead groups in moorland terrain in South West England and South Wales in Summer conditions. 

Suited to those leading Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions and for Ten Tors leaders.

Summer Moorland Walking Leader Assessment (SWMML)

This 1 day assessment is for those who have completed Summer Moorland Walking Leader Training (or WGL training or ML training but have not been assessed).

Summer Moorland Camping Leader Training & Assessment (SWMML)

This weekend course (Friday evening to Sunday afternoon) is for those wishing to lead groups ‘Wild Camping’ in moorland terrain in South West England and South Wales in Summer conditions.  The course includes training and assessment.  Candidates need to have previously passed the Summer Moorland Walking Leader assessment or passed WGL assessment.

Suited to those leading Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions and for Ten Tors leaders.

Winter Moorland Walking Leader Training (SWMML)

This weekend course (Friday evening to Sunday afternoon) is for those wishing to lead groups in moorland terrain in South West England and South Wales in Winter conditions. 

Suited to those leading Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions and for Ten Tors leaders.

Winter Moorland Walking Leader Assessment (SWMML)

This 1 day assessment is for those who have completed Winter Moorland Walking Leader Training (or WGL training or ML training but have not been assessed). 

MOUNTAIN BIKE LEADER COURSES

Run in conjunction with the Cycle Touring Club (CTC) we provide a range of qualifications for mountain bike leaders;

  • Technical Leader
  • Trail Maintenance

FIRST AID COURSES

The Dartmoor Centres provide a range of First Aid courses in conjunction with Mountain Medicine (HSE no. 991/91).  Aimed at outdoor practitioners our courses are highly valued by customers for their practical approach to first aid in the outdoors.

 

2 Day (16 hour) First Aid for the Outdoors (including Emergency First Aid at Work)

This 2 day course covers the basics of first aid including the Emergency First Aid at Work syllabus and is designed to give participants the necessary skills to respond to common accidents and emergencies at work, in the home and outdoors.  Particular emphasis is placed on casualty care in remote locations.

This is our most popular course as it meets the requirements of NGB awards such as SWMML, ML, WGL, SPA etc.

1 Day (6 hour) Emergency First Aid at Work (HSE)

This 1 day course covers the basics of first aid and is designed to give participants the necessary skills to respond to common accidents and emergencies at work and in the home.

3 Day (18 hour) First Aid at Work (HSE)

This 3 day course covers in more detail first aid for the workplace and is designed to give participants the necessary skills to respond to common accidents and emergencies at work and in the home.


2 Day (18 hour) First Aid at Work Refresher (HSE)

This 2 day course is for those who have previously completed a 4 or 3 day First Aid at Work Course and wish to maintain that qualification.
